the row eyewear

menswear, denim, now sunglasses. i have been meaning to blog about this for a while.
the olsens have teamed up with linda farrow -who works for other niche fashion lines like dries van noten and jeremy scott - to design their eyewear.
the collection is starting off with only four styles. ash said “we tried to find certain pieces that look good on more than one face, to pay close attention to how they fit certain faces and make them wearable at the same time.” of course you did, genius of my life.
***
i also liked what team farrow said about this partnership:“[the row is] selling in the best stores and is worn by people who are decision makers, so for our eyewear to be associated with them is fantastic”

confiture canadienne

the olympic torch is in victoria today, and im kind of excited to go see it later. pulls at my greek canadian heartstrings. but on another note of canadiana, my roomate and i had a jar of strawberry maple jam in our fridge, we dont know where it came from, and it is unbelieevaable. i cant find it anywhere. tell me if you ever stumble across it.. and also buy some for yourselves, trust me.

community clothing

i never thought id see the day.. nevertheless here i am, doing a post about aritzia. not that i have anything against them, i worked there for three years and still shop there, its just not fun when you see something with such a distinct and interesting culture turn into something mass-marketed.
that being said, i really like the community clothing website, and i like that its been severed from aritzias main site because it really is a unique line. i remember when it first came out, the vibe they said they were going for was "urban natural" which i totally didnt understand until i saw the first show. its very representative of street style in victoria, i think. the clothes are basic but urban, and use materials like organic cotton, bamboo, hemp, and recycled wool.
in true aritzia style they also feature artists, poetry, and other inspirations on the site. right now they are featuring photographers anne hall, jess gough, and matthew colquhoun who did the photography for this shoot.

i see youre sticking with the denim

i forgot about dree for a while there. shes not really where i thought she would be by now..
nevertheless theres something breathtaking about her in this photograph that paish sent me. i can just feel the breeze wafting the smoke away.. caught the perfect moment. also love the the colours she is wearing, the eyes, and the unexpected bleaching of her hair ...which i like a lot, despite being a fan of her natural hair from before

ps if anyone gets the reference from this posts title, you are lovely.

arts and crafts

the day that i posted this picture of the miu miu socks and shoes, my friend marnie informed me that she was planning a sock sequining party. i havent sewn a thing since the fashion course i took in grade 11 so this was somewhat scary territory for me.. but im really happy with the way mine turned out. the miu miu shopping bag is just for effect :P

classics

ive been looking for a trench coat ever since i saw the movie avenue montaigne about a month ago. obviously a burberry trench is classic, but i wanted something with just a touch of creativity while staying in my limited colour palette. the other day while stumbling around oak bay, i found this fade trench at my favorite consignement store, house of savoy. i love that its the original burberry trench tweaked a bit. the best part about it, is when i hold an umbrella, it looks like the bottom of my jacket is wet.

i wanted to make a love story without being nerdy..

count your blessings

ah the good old days when i could get french macarons any time i felt so inclined. this macaron boutique is in cannes, where my friends and i popped in for some post-beach taste testing.
i have been dying for some for about a month now, and finally found them at murchies on government. only one flavor was good (i tried all five.. very unusual flavours so i forget what they were.. get the small white ones) but they had the texture down, which should hold me over until my parents bring me some from la bambouche in toronto.

office space

along my walls on the floor i have six piles of books and magazines. on top of my dresser is a row of smaller books held by eiffel tower book ends. dresser.. magazines.. night stand.. more books and a notebook in case i ever decide to write my memoirs. i suppose in a sense it can look messy, but i love being surrounded by piles of information, literature, and creativity. its amazing that these ephemeral things that i can hold represent invisible thoughts that we can never physically materialize.
i dont have a desk .. which is curious as in my last year of my masters.. and so i prefer to think of the world as my office. change.. even if its just location.. is what keeps people engaged, inspired, and motivated. i try to keep this in mind with everything. im not really going anywhere with this, just some thoughts that these images inspire. enjoy the rain ! xx

the end

my quest for the perfect tinted moisturizer has come to an end. i am in love.
although i adore the bioderma product, you have to hire a detective to find it. this product has some coverage, doesnt shine, and gives the most flawless, natural base. my list of dior products that i am addicted to just keeps growing...

hea-ven

how, how does miuccia manage to know what my dreams are made of? the play of strong and dainty is irresistably spot on..

its inevitable, im saving my grad student pennies for some miu miu at christmas. ive been anticipating it since this post in march, when i was first romanced by the fall collection. i think you should view the show, including detail shots, here.

chanel à la doré

i love garance dorés way of writing. her descriptions adorably evoke the fun that is fashion. i always want to post about her articles, but then i would be talking about her everyday. oh, also i love her photographs. these are just a few from the farmy chanel show.

come again?

seriously guys, is this for real? im actually asking.. im not familar enough with the onion to know the style of their satire. this article reports that the metropolitan museum of art is allowing people to touch the art now because theyre "struggling" as an institution. im not going to give my two cents until i know if this is a joke or not!

avant le birkin..

i have issues. sometimes i think i should have just started a blog for everything i buy. but i am in love with this snakeskin tote that i bought today. its exactly what i have been looking for forever! i have always admired ao's fendi, and by admired i mean been obsessed with. however, i feel that if that was my budget id rather put a down payment on a condo overlooking the water.. or a small loft with a birkin on the side..

bibliophile

i thought this was adorable. paish introduced me to the blog polly-vous francais, which i now frequent. she poses the question, what do you get when you cross a francophile and a bibiophile? although my first thought was 'me', this is pollys pile of books that contemplate the french mystique.

layering piece

i bought this silk tank about a month ago, and it is exactly what one needs to wear under their million loose, lowcut knits.. if your wardrobe looks anything like mine.
the cotton lace along the top conforms to my body perfectly while the silk body is very loose, with a rough edged bottom. and if you click on the left image you will notice that the heart-shaped top of the silk is a very sharp silhouette.
i worked at aritzia for three years and seem to be shopping there more since i left...
knit overtop from zara.. leggings are danskin

wilderness

---------

i totally disappeared for a few days there, its been one of those weeks! luckily, i have net a porter welcoming me back to sanity. i urge everyone to visit their site, click on 'whats new', and feel all your problems melt away with fall fashion taking their place.
i could have picked a million things from the site to post but im going to stick to this e&j wilderness jacket. the reason i love everything the olsens design is because they always know how to make that perfect piece that im looking for, even if i dont know it yet.
case it point: the perfect black blazer, with a reversible, detachable rabbit fur vest. two outerwear staples.
