vogue knows all

this is how you should be: maternity edition.
i love everythiiinnng about this. sheer layers, bandage skirt, tights, touselled hair, natural makeup, black on black on black.. and look at the detail on the front of that cardigan, such a whimsical jab at maternity clothing.

victorian autumn

seeing as victorian fall weather has graced us today, im going to keep with the theme of comfort.. knits, antique tea sets, and vintage jewelery to keep me and my books company.
if i had chosen fashion design as my career route, i would have created a lounge culture.. knits, jerseys, accessories to wear around the house.. not quite pjamas, not quite clothes. perhaps one day..

necklace and locket: vintage, teacup: my roomates (from russia), notebooks: moleskin and paul smith.
knit: the gap, cotton bra: elle macpherson

sunday interiors

the above image is now the second interior ive reblogged from veronica. she has a good eye, what can i say! i had to post this one because i acttuuaally have dreams about the large mirror in it.

my first experience with an oversized mirror placed on the floor, was in the apartment mosha, esther, and i stayed in in paris last summer. the picture below is the only one i had of it, its just to the right of mosha. just feels like you see yourself in a real way because you see the room behind you as well, you can get really close to check your garments, and it looks so relaxed on the floor..

perf

veronica sent this to me a while ago, and i keep meaning to post it. yes, it is the perfect sequined blazer.

the narrow length, the cut of the arms and shoulders, and the space between each large sequined stud makes the piece appear as if it has been designed by an architect. the pose accentuates it all, and hedi's photography seals it.

literature

how to: learn about current fashion, art shows, music, inspiring people, interior design, etc. etc. etc. when you are lost in your school or work bubble. carine knows how to lay out a magazine in a way that that not only teaches us about fashion, but also life.

ao quotidienne

sometimes i go through phases in which my outfits are just not falling into place properly.. either i cant think of anything i like, or it looks awkward, etc. i suppose this is what happens when all your pieces are for layering; you need to be able to put it together.
but whenever i find myself in one of these moods, i flip through my olsen file and there is always an ensemble to assist me. im pretty sure all my stuff can be found in ashleys wardrobe.. accept not the row version. there is a comfort in her looks and layering that make for perfect daily inspiration.

another brilliantly bold shouldered top by zara worn with the wang stud purse .. alas no zara in victoria. has anyone bought any of their bold shoulders yet? feedback?

to think it all started at aritzia

hazel and steph, two of my very good friends, and fellow common culturers have recently moved to london to pursue fashion. they are doing great and im so proud of them.
this picture was taken for a fashion blog at the 1971 reiss launch party. feels like yesterday that michelle, hazel, steph, and i were running around the floors of aritzia..

le bon marché

i am not usually a fan of department stores and malls, but my life is lovely when im in le bon marché in paris. the building itself was designed by gustave eiffel in the 1870s. if you have never visited, please click the image for details, and imagine yourself weaving through the aisles, stopping into the rooms off of the mezzanine, into label-specific displays and nooks.
sometimes just thinking about leafing through rykiel knits, lanvin separates, and miu miu lingerie there can take me to another world. ah what would i do without daydreams..

9.17.2009

yum!

two of my favorite casual desserts, french macarons and cupcakes, are also such good eye candy. even if youre not eating them theyre just so lovely to have on ornate dishes around your kitchen and office. this partially has to do with my infatuation with cluttered assorted pastries.. i watched marie antoinette again a couple of weeks ago, and it inspired me to the point that i held my own marie-inspired tea party

the row spring

the row will be making a line of denim for spring 2010. apparently they have a vintage levis look.. but can you imagine what the fit is like? its going to be record breaking.
also, heres a sneak peak at a seafoam-minty-green cardigan that i just want to hold.

spaces

reblogged from veronica. this has been the background on my desktop since she posted it. its amazing because those few pieces can make a million outfits.. ive always liked having my clothes out in the open and on display, as long as they are strategically displayed. also it reminds me of the marni display racks, only inversed. inspiring all around..

texture

i really like a lot about this; cut, pattern, wool, stubble, glasses, styling, hair, unconventional posing, and im a sucker for a velvet tie..
and you didnt even need to see the full length shot. bravo t ford.

ao du jour

this is my favorite photograph from ash's shoot with marie claire. everything from the lingerie, to the bed sheets, to the wall colour works together perfectly. it also seems to work with ashley's natural aesthetic and her old soul persona. totally frameable for a dressing room.

miumiu autumn

look at the cut of this jacket!! click for detail

this is my favorite since the kirsten collaboration. i like that miuccia skipped the celebs this season, and went for a cleaner aesthetic.. it seems so much more miu than the katie holmes episode. this campaign focuses on the textures, rich materials, and unique workmanship that makes the brand what it is. the photographs also use colours and allignment that isnt really comparable to any other luxury brand.

day one

...................

i still get excited for the first day of school outfit. unfortunately, i slept in and threw on a repeat outfit from sunday. so i will live vicariously through these looks. either one of these would have killed, i love both so much. shes playing with fit and proportion perfectly, and you dont see the effort.
i cant stop looking at the one-sleeve cream jacket, the vintage tuxedo pants (left) and the way black skinnys (right) fit with the givenchy heels.

the september issue

recently becoming a brunette has been easier since lara has changed teams too.

while the fortunate souls who live in europe have already bought septembers vogue paris, the girls of canada are still reading through august and anxiously awaiting the fall issue. for all the photographs from this shoot, click here.

happy birthday to my dear friend emma! since we are on other sides of the country, i will celebrate with some seafoam-coloured interiors, an obsession of ours.

vintage

my new vintage purchases from the patch really excite me.. this braided fur scarf and sequined blouse fill some big gaps in my wardrobe.

je ne sais quoi..

0
it seems that the discussion of the je ne sais quoi is inevitable when one finds themself people watching at a parisian café. sometimes you look at some of these women and really wonder how a woman can be sooo effortlessly chic. heres how im interpretting it in my life.. its not easy; you have to really overhaul the way you look at life and fashion.
***
1.. the effort must be made at the store.. think really hard before you purchase something; does it fit in with your wardrobe, is it versatile within it, is it your style, is it a fit that suits you well (fit trumps pattern), and can you easily throw it on. effort now, ease later.
2.. dont overanalyze when youre getting dressed.. its better to think about the outfit as an idea before even putting it on; do it like a puzzle. i was in france for 5 weeks with one mirror in which i could only see myself from the shoulders up, and i have never been so confident with my ensembles. go with vibes over perfection.
3.. once you wear it, WEAR IT! the most striking women are so because the last thing they are paying attention to is their clothing. theyre focusing on the world around them, the clothes are just there for the ride.
***
et voila.. thats what i try to apply to my life.

dream apartment

cléo de 5 à 7 is a great movie from the sixties directed by agnès varda. highly recommended.
but as great as this movie is, i am blogging today about cléo's apartment, which is perfect. these images are small, but every angle of this set killed me.. the open concept, high ceilings, antique furniture and carpets, jewelery hanging from the walls, and the swing with the angel wings on the wall behind.. its my new fantasy.
