the paris series

"if you are lucky enough to have lived in paris as a young man, then wherever you go for the rest of your life, it stays with you, for paris is a moveable feast" - ernest hemingway

paris is one of the most difficult places to leave. having just spent ten days there, i feel nostalgic but also re-inspired. for the next week or so im going to go through some of art, fashion, and culture i experienced while there. while last year i took so many pictures that i treasure now, i barely took any this year. sometimes a camera takes away from the experience a setting provides, and it will never be the same as being there. and so my goal this year was just to soak up as much as possible, and look actively. doing this allowed me to stay in the moment, and be part of my surroundings rather than a voyeur.

I actually have been thinking about this lately. I think that it's great that you took minimal photos. I find that camera's without view-finders can be especially distracting and completely take away from even the experience of picture taking. But on the other hand, I do think that depending on the situation taking pictures can be very much a way of experiencing what's around you. Maybe is more a solo thing.
